TASK 2: KTA 6. Steel City Festival Brief and Target Audience

Steel city festival is a festival that is based in south Yorkshire using only their bands. I would use multiple genre of rock and will be sticking to just this genre, The type of people who would listen to this music will be younger people who like to go out often and party, you will find that people who enjoy this type of music are also interested in playing their own music.

John Hartley (1987)
Suggested that media producers create "invisible fictions"of their target audience.

Ien Ang (1991)
Similarly argued that all media producers create "imaginary entities" of their target audience before creating a media product.

Age: 25
Gender: Male/Female  60%/40%
Social Grade: ABC1's 60%

John loves rock, he listens and plays it all the time he can. Rock inspires who he is and what he does with life. John plays the guitar in all of his spare time constantly creating his own solos to performs in his band thats been going for just over 2 years now. When he was young he use to always want to be in a big rock band and so took up guitar at a young age. He enjoys drinking and having a good time he often meets up with friends to go out for gigs or playing violent games on his Xbox.

KTA 3/5 Graphic designs and analysis of them

Flyer 1:
The first flyer is one from 3 years ago; the purpose of it would have been to inform people of a music festival that was taking place at Terminal 5. The purpose of the flyer was to attract the correct people too the festival rather than just anyone including people who would not want to listen to the type of music so would not buy any of the music. The format of this flyer was a poster form and would have been passed out to the target audience and hung up on walls around the types of places people who would listen to the music would go. Content of this flyer is simple and gives a good and clear view of where the place is and the headline acts. The style of the flyer is simple yet effective with a san-serif font allowing people to read it easier. The layout of the flyer gives you a strong view of what the flyer is for and who the target audience is the headline HARD gives you an instant thought of something strong or powerful, this also links too the music that you would hear from the bands. The target audience is younger people who would listen to this type of music

Flyer 2:
The second flyer I choose was a Coke advert, its purpose it to make people want to buy coke and show that it has more desirable affects than it does. The motto “live on the Coke side of life” is trying to tell people that Coke is the better thing to drink and gives you a better life if you do so. The Format of the flyer would have been in poster form and hung around the city, this then provides the best coverage of the brand possible. Content found in this flyer is interesting, its clearly modern because of the shadow effects found proving it was done in Photoshop more recently almost looking back in the past of what Coke use to be like. This flyer also has very little wording on it allowing you to not need to look for long too see what the product is, Coke is known by everyone so all it needs is the Coke colours and the logo and you know what its about. The layout of the flyer is very simple with minimal text, this gives it a huge advantage for billboards or bus stops because it takes little reading allowing you to just take a glance and read it. The pictures at the top of the image is good for drawing your attention towards the advert and a motto across the middle is perfectly placed to get you reading it and it stuck in your head. The target audience for this flyer is just about everyone, in this instance it focuses more on the older audiences, this is simply because it looks back on the older adverts giving older people a reminder of what it use to look like as a brand and making people feel happy because they remember the old adverts and people in the adds.

Flyer 3:
This flyer is for a music festival. The purpose for it is to let people know of a festival that is focused on the Bay area’s Largest Christian music Event, where and when it also shows the acts that would be performing on the day. The Format of this flyer would have been in poster form and given out to the type of people who would most likely go and join in with the festival, this flyer would also be one posted on a wall for people to see. The content found on the 3rd flyer is simply the date, location and people performing at the festival, you can also find some little bits of information giving you a better picture of if the festival is for you e.g “Christian Music Event” or all of the sponsors allowing you to see more about what the festival will be like. The layout of the flyer is simpler than the others giving you easy access to locate important information and pictures allow it for quicker viewing with the same understanding. The target audience for this one is quite clear and easily noticed from early reading into the flyer, the festival for this one is for Christians or people who enjoy more mellow or relaxed music. You can tell the target audience on this flyer from the first lines and the sponsors that are found at the bottom.

Flyer 4:
The purpose of this flyer is too draw people of the right audience into buying tickets for a music festival. The format of this flyer would have been in poster form and handed out too people who seem to be the target audience or they would have been posted on walls for people to see when they are going past or while they are waiting for them to read. The content of this flyer is information about the festival and when it’s held and where, it also gives you information about why the festival is being held and a few details about the specifics. This flyer has been laid out very cleverly, it starts of by telling you the date which gets you thinking if you are able to attend and if your free, if not then there is no point in reading on for people just passing by but if you are then you will want to know more about your possible day out, just under that it then says FREE, this is a huge draw for people and will want to read on even more. The target audience for this flyer is broader than the others, it seems to be more for everyone who just fancy a day out.

Flyer 5:
This final flyer is a less recent one from 2010. The purpose of it as all of the others is to draw in the right audience and make them want to come, on this flyer it’s done by the colours less than the text. The format of this flyer would have been in poster or even billboards, this is so too get the most coverage for the festival getting more people to come. The content of this flyer gives a good yet effective simple format not including much allows people to just have a quick look and know all the poster tells you, the pictures and colours are the main thing in the flyer to give you information. Layout of this flyer is simple and elegant, with a funky retro vibe to it reaching out to all sorts of people of all ages. The target audience for this is like I just said for most people who would been into music around in the 80s or 90s bringing back what it used to be like.
